An indentured servant is a person who agrees to an indenture to work for another person; and In return, the person who is having them put to work pays the money that it costs for the servant's travel into their country. Indentured servants first came to America a short while after the start of Jamestown in 1607. The idea of indentured servitude was thought of as a way for cheap manual labor. After a while of the service, indentured servitude became a very important part of the early-American economy. After a while though, people wanted to stop paying these people all together so it evolved to slavery.
