Why did slavery become part of culture in the South and not the North?
The south had much more plantations and much larger plantations, and there were not enough people who would work in a plantations even for pay. Some of the plantation owners couldn't afford to pay workers, so they needed free work. Free work as in slavery. The North didn't need slavery because they were more industrialized; so they only hired normal paid workers in the factories and shops.
